MAW is a narrative driven adventure about a queer wolf detective exploring his identity in a totalitarian regime.
What's it like to be queer in a totalitarian state? MAW is a narrative driven adventure, where you explore your identity as a queer wolf detective working for the state.
Use your animal instincts. Sniff for clues. Interrogate and date other anthropomorphic characters that dynamically react to your personality, appearance and previous choices.
Form relationships with other animals, even romantic ones, and slowly uncover the so-called queer underground.
Live a normal life, work, go shopping, talk with your mom, hide who you really are. The state does not take kindly to animals who are different from the norm, nor is the mother of the protagonist.
Will you fight your instincts or accept who you really are and proudly face the consequences?
MAW is developed by Zakroutil, an indie dev from the Czech Republic.
MAW is based on my own experience with coming out as a queer person and is also inspired by the lives of other LGBTQ+ people living in Eastern Europe during and after the Soviet era.
Through the eyes, ears and other senses of the anthropomorphic main character, I want to give an option to explore these themes to people who might not have the freedom to do so in real life and give hope to people who are struggling with who they are.
“MAW is a deeply personal project for me. After I came out to my family, it was pretty rough. I sort of found a new family among people fromt he furry community and this game is my attempt to give something back to them, sort of a game made by furries for furries (but not only for them!). Now things are much better, and the underlying message of MAW should be one of hope. Because even when all seems dark and hopeless there are others who are like you and together is how we survive. We must help each other through difficult times and in the end things always somehow work out for the better.” - Zakroutil
